Our kitchen cabinets are the Maple Espresso color. With 9' ceilings, the 42" cabinets are standard in our community, but we upgraded to the second tier for this color. Our entire house will be in satin nickel finish (including the knobs/hardware on the cabinets in the kitchen).
We're on the fence about the countertop color we selected. It is the upgraded laminate (Formica 180fx) in Travertine Silver. We're going to check out a couple other pairings before we move forward.
Finally is the flooring. We upgraded to the level "B" resilient flooring for the improved feel of the product. In 2-5 years time we plan to replace with high-end hardwoods, but these floors are fine for our needs and we wanted to make sure we focused on the structural upgrades we wanted first (morning room, sitting area, etc). This resilient in the picture will cover all areas downstairs except for the great room and the study.
We're planning to use the "dining room" area next to the foyer as a library (bookshelves, etc) and not a dining space - but we are not doing the library upgrade that adds walls/doors. We want it to remain open. We asked to have the dining room not in carpet and instead continue the laminate flooring through that space - we're waiting to hear back on a price for the "non-standard" upgrade.
Our upstairs bathroom (not the master) will be the wheat colored cabinets and this Mushroom tile (upgrade level B). We originally had upgraded resilient in that space, but wanted the feel of tile instead for our guests.
The Master bath is again the wheat colored cabinets (why aren't white cabinets an option? - we will likely end up painting them white later). We selected the Parkway Gray tile for both the floors and the master shower walls with the listello border in the picture above (Upgrade level C flooring).
Next week is the electrical appointment and next weekend will likely see our final change order. We are on track to break ground on 5/5/2015 with a tentative delivery of August 2015.
Love the colors of the shutters! Congratulations on the new build!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteCan't wait to see it all come together! The tile you chose for the master is what we selected. The gray turns out to be just lovely in person. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI tiled our bathroom at our current house with a similar product. I used 12"x24" larger tiles, 2"x2" tiles for trim strips and grouted it with pure white. We love it. Can't wait to see the layout carried up from the floor and into the shower with the listello!
DeleteThe Fairfield Maple cabinets are standard for our kitchen and baths as well and I actually love the shape of the cabinet, we're going to paint them white right after closing. I can't wait!!! The upgraded white cabinets would have been $7,000 for our kitchen, no thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWe did choose to upgrade the cabinets in the kitchen for one of the darker veneer finishes. The cost was $5000. It is definitely a high cost considering that the included cabinets are the same material with slightly different routed edges and the same veneer material. We didn't want to have to gut the entire kitchen in the future though. We do plan to swap in some nice quartz counters in the future though. The prices for granite were insane!
DeleteI was searching for 'twilight shadow' siding and am so happy I came across your blog! My husband and I are also building in Orange Commons! We are building the Venice and seem to be on the same track as far as appointments and breaking ground dates. I have been wanting to start a blog as well! We look forward to meeting you and your wife and the startup of our new neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteLisa, That's great to hear! Good luck with the Venice! Which lot are you guys on?
DeleteWe are on 46. There is actually a home in the development already done up with Twilight Shadow (albeit with different shutters/door color than we chose) on the right side of McNamara near the apex in the road.
Thank you! The batemen looks beautiful. We are on lot 76. We saw the house done with twilight shadow and loved it..we also went with a different door color, naval blue. Looking forward to more of your entries.
ReplyDeleteHello Lisa! My husband and I are also in Orange Commons! We closed on April 15th and have a Sienna model on lot 40. I'm very excited to see your homes progress as well!
DeleteHi Kari! Thats great!! We look forward to meeting you guys. We actually came to the open house of your home - its beautiful! Congrats!!
DeleteLove the selections you've made! The kitchen is going to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Will - We are going to be signing our Purchase agreement for a bateman near Akron, Ohio. We've heard the flooring prices are a bit higher than normal. We would like to upgrade the carpet, padding and then doing the laminate hardwoods downstairs(except the study and great room). What was your experience?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Craig
Craig - have you been given the options list yet? In NY they are required to give the full list and prices.
DeleteWhile I'm sure there are some differences by market, let me know if you'd like to see some specific numbers from our sheet.
Also - it was WAY too expensive to upgrade the flooring with RH for this plan. I got some quotes and to rip out the resilient / carpeting downstairs and install hardwoods later will be much cheaper than paying RH to install them (except for the added aggravation of doing it later).
We upgraded the pad in the great room (which I somewhat regret since we'll be ripping it out in a year or two to install hardwoods).
We kept the base carpet and pad upstairs as the prices to upgrade seemed fairly high. Again, I looked into some post-close replacement numbers and we would be saving money by having new carpets installed after we close. We plan to keep the base stuff for around a year and then start upgrading after we learn how we'll use the house (and have also made the majority of our messes from moving and settling in).
Hey Will - We have the list but no prices. I was hoping to get an idea of what the padding upgrade cost to 8lb in the great room, study and upstairs(zone 2).
ReplyDeleteWe are going to try to do upgrade laminate hardwoods throughout the downstairs minus the study and great room. ON a similar house i was looking at it was only going to be 5,250. If Ryan is way above that, I will walk away and do it later.
We decided to stay with the resilient in the bathrooms and I have a great tile guy who can do that form sometime in the near future.
Thanks again!
Craig
